Beta-Glucan leads with high effect size, high evidence, medium trust, WA 76 (19 studies), with LDL and total cholesterol reductions requiring at least 3 g daily. Flaxseed (WA 68; medium effect size, very high evidence, medium trust; 20 studies), Avocado, Oleic Acid, and Magnesium also carry medium ratings and may lower LDL or total cholesterol, though effects vary by product and population.

- Flaxseed, when eaten in amounts of about 30–50 grams a day, can help lower total and LDL (“bad”) cholesterol but does not seem to change HDL (“good”) cholesterol.
- It may also slightly lower blood fats called triglycerides, although some types of flaxseed products, such as low-fat flaxseed or flaxseed in bread, might actually raise triglyceride levels.
- The cholesterol-lowering effect is most reliable in people with high cholesterol and may also benefit those who are overweight or have diabetes or heart-related risks.
