Supplements studied for hearing loss.

Overview

Two supplements are indexed for hearing loss (4 studies). N-Acetyl Cysteine (NAC) has slightly higher weighting (WA 40; very low effect size, high evidence, medium trust; 3 studies) and generally did not improve noise- or drug-related hearing loss, though it may help in sudden idiopathic hearing loss.

Panax Ginseng (WA 44; low effect size, low evidence, medium trust; 1 study) showed possible short-term benefit at some frequencies in workers exposed to loud noise, but it may be less effective than NAC for noise-related loss.
