Supplements studied for hemorrhoids.

Overview

Two supplements are tracked for hemorrhoids (4 studies), both with low ratings (WA 40; low effect size, low evidence). Cissus Quadrangularis (3 studies) did not outperform placebo when taken by mouth at different doses for one to two weeks or used as a cream for one week.

A rectal suppository combining Cissus Quadrangularis with Amcella paniculata improved pain, bleeding, and swelling about as much as a hydrocortisone and cinchocaine suppository, though it is unclear which ingredient drove any benefit. Alpha-Lipoic Acid (1 uncontrolled study) reported symptom improvements at 200 mg daily over 12 weeks versus no treatment, but without placebo control or blinding. See the evidence reviews below.
