Head and Neck Cancer

Supplements studied for head and neck cancer.

Overview

Four supplements are tracked for head and neck cancer (4 studies). Probiotics carry the highest WA score (60; medium effect size, medium evidence, high trust), though the available summary is brief. Vitamin E (WA 32; very low effect size, low evidence, medium trust) has low effect-size ratings but medium trust; a large study found high-dose vitamin E did not prevent recurrence and may have increased recurrence risk during and after radiation.

N-Acetyl Cysteine (NAC) and Vitamin A both have WA 32 with very low effect-size ratings but medium-to-high trust from single trials showing no survival or recurrence benefit at high doses. Evidence is limited and, for vitamin E, potentially unfavorable. See the evidence reviews below for details.
