Overview
Vitamin A eye gel applied before surgery is the only indexed intervention for corneal abrasion prevention, with one trial in this database. That study found fewer surface scratches and higher tear production shortly after surgery in treated eyes compared with eyes that did not receive the gel.
By 24 hours after surgery, differences between groups were no longer apparent, suggesting any protective effect may be short-lived. Evidence is limited to a single perioperative trial. See the evidence review below for protocol and outcome details.
