Central serous chorioretinopathy

Supplements studied for central serous chorioretinopathy.

Overview

Lutein is the sole supplement studied for central serous chorioretinopathy in this database, with one early trial. Participants took a combination of lutein with vitamins C and E, zinc, and copper three times daily for six months and were compared with a placebo group.

That regimen did not improve vision or reduce subretinal fluid compared with placebo over the study period. Whether lutein alone, different doses, or longer treatment might help remains unclear and would require further controlled research. See the evidence review below for trial specifics.
