Overview
Vitamin E (DEX Score 36; very low effect size, medium evidence, medium trust), Maitake Mushroom (DEX Score 44; low effect size, low evidence, medium trust), and Olive Oil (DEX Score 48; low effect size, medium evidence, medium trust) each have low-strength evidence for pharyngeal cancer. A large vitamin E trial in people with type-2-diabetes or heart disease found no reduced oral or pharyngeal cancer risk over seven years. One maitake study reported slightly better five-year survival and quality of life during chemoradiation. Olive oil intake showed no clear risk association.
None has reliable preventive or treatment evidence. The heatmap and evidence reviews below summarize studies.
