Overview
Selenium has been studied only once for subarachnoid hemorrhage, given intravenously alongside acetylcysteine rather than on its own. This combination appeared to shorten ICU stays but did not improve brain recovery, total hospital stay, or other complications in the available trial.
It is unclear whether any benefit came from selenium, acetylcysteine, or the combination of treatments. Selenium carries low effect-size, evidence, and trust ratings based on this single study. See the heatmap and evidence review below for trial details.
