Supplements studied for schizophrenia.

Overview

Several supplements have been studied as add-ons to antipsychotic medication for schizophrenia. Ginkgo (6 studies) may reduce overall and negative symptoms when combined with standard drugs. Glycine (6 studies) may improve negative symptoms with older antipsychotics but not with clozapine. Alpha-Lipoic Acid (6 studies) shows mixed results across doses and durations.

Melatonin (4 studies) may help sleep and medication side effects rather than core psychosis symptoms. Inositol (3 studies) did not benefit schizophrenia even at high doses. See the heatmap and evidence reviews below.
