Supplements studied for stomach cancer.
Overview
Several dietary supplements and foods have been studied for stomach cancer, with mixed and often conflicting results. Oats and oat bran, as sources of cereal fiber, may lower gastric cancer risk and carry the strongest ratings here (medium effect-size and evidence). Dietary vitamin E intake may reduce risk by about 21%, though supplement trials have not clearly confirmed a benefit. Black tea and green tea show inconsistent associations, with some studies suggesting slight risk reduction at high intake and others finding no clear link or even higher mortality in regular drinkers.
Garlic research is also mixed: aged garlic extract may reduce death from stomach cancer in long-term studies, but evidence for preventing the disease itself is uncertain.
