Evidence Review

In a study with healthy Japanese babies, those who drank formula with higher biotin content had higher biotin levels compared to those who drank formula with less biotin or were breastfed.
The babies who consumed the biotin-supplemented formula grew and developed normally, with no health problems.
This research helped support the safety and benefit of adding biotin to baby formula, leading to government approval in Japan in 2014.

In 84 healthy Japanese infants, formula with 2.4 µg/100 kcal biotin raised urinary biotin more than 0.5 µg/100 kcal formula at 1 and 6 months, but ASQ-3 development scores at 9–36 months did not differ.
