SupplementDEX

Bacterial vaginosis (BV)

Supplements studied for bacterial vaginosis (BV).

Overview

Two supplements are indexed for bacterial vaginosis (BV) across two studies, both with low ratings (DEX Score 40) for effect size, evidence, and trust.

Probiotics have insufficient evidence for BV in the indexed research and cannot be considered established therapy. Vitamin D also remains unclear: one early study in women at high risk for sexually transmitted infections found that 50,000 IU weekly alongside standard antibiotic treatment did not reduce BV risk compared with placebo.

Overall supplement evidence for BV is very limited. See the evidence reviews below for trial detail.
