Overview

What is beta-alanine?

Beta-alanine is a non-protein amino acid that combines with histidine in muscles to form carnosine, which helps buffer acid and reduce fatigue during high-intensity exercise. Supplementation with beta-alanine increases muscle carnosine levels, improving performance for activities lasting 1 to 10 minutes. Additionally, carnosine has antioxidant properties and may support aging and neurological health.

Dosage

A typical dose for athletic performance is 3.2–6.4 grams per day, split into 4 doses (0.8–1.6 grams every 3–4 hours).
