Dysmenorrhea
Supplements studied for dysmenorrhea.
Overview
Evidence is limited across six supplements, all low trust. Alpha-Lipoic Acid (600 mg before periods) may reduce pain by about 24% in one early study without placebo comparison. Green Tea intake correlates with lower menstrual cramp rates in observational research.
Melatonin 10 mg nightly during menstruation slightly reduced pain versus placebo in one small trial. Valerian three times daily reduced pain over two cycles in another small study. Flaxseed alone lacks direct evidence. The heatmap and evidence reviews below detail each entry.
