Fragile X syndrome

Supplements studied for fragile x syndrome.

Overview

Fragile X syndrome has one reviewed supplement: Acetyl-L-Carnitine (WA 44; low effect size, low evidence, medium trust). Oral acetyl-L-carnitine did not appear to improve thinking skills in children with fragile X syndrome across the trials summarized here, with no clear cognitive gains on standard measures.

Some parents reported less hyperactive behavior, but teachers did not observe the same improvement in those studies. Evidence does not support cognitive benefit from this supplement in the available research. See the heatmap and evidence reviews below for details.
