Eclampsia
Supplements studied for eclampsia.
Overview
Magnesium sulfate has the strongest evidence in this batch for eclampsia (WA 76, eight studies, high effect, evidence, and trust). It is the preferred medication to stop and prevent seizures in this serious pregnancy-related condition, usually given by injection or infusion into a vein or muscle.
Typical dosing starts with 4–6 grams initially, followed by smaller doses every four hours or continuous infusion, adjusted using blood tests and urine output and usually continuing at least one day after the last seizure. See the evidence reviews below for full dosing and trial detail.
