Oral submucous fibrosis
Supplements studied for oral submucous fibrosis.
Overview
Aloe (WA 72; medium effect size, high evidence, very high trust) has medium-strength evidence that topical aloe gel may reduce burning pain in oral submucous fibrosis over three months, though jaw opening and tongue movement were not clearly improved. Combined oral and topical aloe may help mouth and tongue movement more than some comparators in limited research.
Lycopene (WA 52; low effect size, high evidence, medium trust) has low-strength evidence from small studies suggesting slight mouth-opening gains over one to three months, with unclear clinical meaning. The heatmap and evidence reviews below provide trial detail.
