Kashin-Beck disease

Overview

Selenium has medium-strength evidence from two studies for Kashin-Beck disease. Selenium-enriched salt may help prevent the disease in children, with those using selenium salt showing a much lower risk than those using regular iodine salt.

Selenium might also aid healing of bone damage in children who are developing the condition. However, for children who already have Kashin-Beck disease, selenium supplements do not appear to improve symptoms such as joint pain or movement. See the evidence reviews below for further details.
