At SupplementDEX we are data-driven. But the human side is the story of why we exist at all.
Here's a quick timeline of our story.
At 16, someone i cared about was diagnosed with bladder cancer. I was in my penultimate year of high school.
The resulting treatment left them bedridden and with a severe side effect of reactive arthritis.
(Frustration = anger + hopelessness)
I remember vividly asking the consulting rheumatologist what we might be able to do, the side effects of the BCG vaccine had left my loved one essentially bedridden for many hours of the day. I asked about a specific supplement (curcumin), but they couldn't tell me anything about the efficacy or study findings. No dosing info, no primary sources. Nothing. To say i felt hopeless was an understatement. This underlying feeling of frustration still drives me to improve SupplementDEX everyday.
A year later, I began law school but i spent all my free time reading scientific studies to find what might help.
Over the next few years, the cancer recurred and we had to undertake many different courses of treatment, each with their own side effects.
I eventually transferred from my law degree to a BSc/Mnd so i could learn more about the science - anything to avoid that feeling of hopelessness.
All the same time, I was collecting and reading studies.
Supplementdex is the result of these years of research.
Today, we're proud to be the trusted supplement database for busy practitioners. Whilst it's important to be rational, it's important to communicate to our users that we don't take your trust lightly. We understand the human cost of ‘not knowing’.
This story might sound familiar to a lot of people, so we created a consumer planwhich provides tools that i wish i had when i was 16. If you can't afford a subscription, join our discord and make a request there. You will likely be approved for a (significant - free) discount if you are a student/facing financial difficulties. You don't really have to do anything in particular to "prove" you're a student.
